In High School, you have a lot of options. There is the wrestling team to the cooking club, to the world peace orginization amd the list goes on. What is the most fun?

My gf's kids told her that no matter how badly they do in school they wont be held back but will be passed on to the next grade. She didnt believe this till a parent teacher meeting to discuss why her son hadnt been bothering to do most of his work, what little they actually assign. Im not sure if the school got the wrong idea or is this a correct take on the no kid left behind act? They confirmed the rumour. Is this true in many schools or is this some kind of horrible abberation?

I failed school totally. I was a dunce at everything. I gained no qualifications at all. Then I went out into the big bad world and started work on a gold mine with a wheelbarrow and shovel. Since then I've learned a trade, made a fortune, taught myself how to do almost anything at all other than rocket science and brain surgery, written computer programs that have had engineers scratching their heads in disbelief....... etc etc. You get the picture? So why did I fail school? I have since discovered that I didn't fail school but that school failed me. Some people learn nothing by being taught. They can only learn when a problem is placed in their lap and its their task to solve it. If other methods of teaching seem to be failing some young people, then find a way of making them their very own teacher and you might be amazed at the results.

I live in Pennsylvania and our school was recently criticized by the local newspaper company for not having breakfast for the students. Part of me feels like we need to provide breakfast because there's parents/guardians out there who make no effort for the kids (or can't because of financial situations). On the other hand, I feel like schools are being asked to do almost everything for kids, and that by providing breakfast, that's just one more responsibility that schools shouldn't have. I'm curious to hear what people think about the issue.
