Amen, sister! I get homework every day and I'm sick of it! I don't know about whatever else country they're living in, but in America, too much work for a child to handle is either called child abuse or child labor! (high 5's the asker of this question!) =D

I can't comment on other kids but I know that when I was in school and more recently college that teachers don't take work you have from other classes into account. Sometimes I'd end up with about 5 or 6 essays to be handed in on the same day. There's not a lot of help given for homework either, and most kids just use the net these days so homework is just not efficient anymore.

It depends if the homework has to do with what you're learning, or if it's just busy work. I'm a teacher and my 3rd graders get a half hour of homework every night. I don't give busy work. Sometimes the problem with middle and high school is that the teachers don't communicate and end up giving a lot of homework one night and not a lot other nights.
However, as the student, it's your responsibility to do your homework. If you can't keep up with your homework, then talk to your teachers and get some help. If you're just annoyed by it b/c it takes away TV or social time (I've heard that from students before) than suck it up and come to the realization that this is your job.
And trust me, your teachers are doing way more homework than you do every night!

i totally agree with you! when i was in middle school we got so much homework! there was an essay about every other week, science fair, a family history project that took hours, and my math class used high school algebra books which went way above almost everybody's heads. plus i had basketball practice and games. after school i would have practice, go home, eat dinner, homework till around 11 then sleep. i wouldn't even do math homework at night- i'd save it for lunch the next day. it was exausting. and especially in the beginning of the year it felt like teachers really piled everything on. it got so much easier in high school though. i don't get half as much homework as i used to. so hold out and it'll get way easier.

I think there's way too much homework assigned in middle school. It hampers kids with a lot of unnecessary work, and it keeps them from having fun. They're still kids after all - they have the rest of their lives to do work.
