Actually we could not give an exact answer unless you're going to specify what chemicals are being used. So we'll just kinda give you a wild guess then...Maybe they are allowed to use these chemicals because it is important to their experiment or it is a catalyst needed to gain the expected result from the experiment. Now, if its hazardous...then it must be closely supervised by the teacher wherein precautionary and safety measures must be properly observed.
