I failed school totally. I was a dunce at everything. I gained no qualifications at all. Then I went out into the big bad world and started work on a gold mine with a wheelbarrow and shovel. Since then I've learned a trade, made a fortune, taught myself how to do almost anything at all other than rocket science and brain surgery, written computer programs that have had engineers scratching their heads in disbelief....... etc etc. You get the picture? So why did I fail school? I have since discovered that I didn't fail school but that school failed me. Some people learn nothing by being taught. They can only learn when a problem is placed in their lap and its their task to solve it. If other methods of teaching seem to be failing some young people, then find a way of making them their very own teacher and you might be amazed at the results.

That is because public education is not about educating someone. It is about processing people to become productive members of society. It is a way for the government to control the lives of the citizens. That is why it is referred to by people in court as a right when people want to go, and as a responsibility to those in court who don't want to go. I teach, math, and do not understand the varibles that make this equation balance. School changed in the 60's from educating to social engineering and job training.

I think it would be better if they removed the compulsory attendance laws. They don't make the students who don't want to be here smarter. Quite the opposite, the ones who don't want to be here hold back the ones who do with their misbehavior which is very often criminal in nature now.

If you're failing given that you've got a studying incapacity or you're settling on categories which are tricky, then that's another tale. Sounds to me such as you simply don't seem to be making use of your self. You are utilizing your whole power to gas the resentment in the direction of your mum and dad and more youthful sister. Here are my strategies: a million. Sit down along with your mum and dad instantly and give an explanation for that you're failing. Tell them that you've got been doing plenty of considering and that you just wish to difference matters. Tell them that you're going to begin doing all your homework and learning every night time and you'll deliver your whole grades as much as atleast a C earlier than the following marking interval. two. Actually DO what you SAY above! three. Concentrate on what you're well at to begin constructing your self worth. If you're well at artwork, then make certain you've got an artwork elegance as an non-compulsory. If you're athletic, take fitness center, become a member of a exercises workforce, or simply cross running day-to-day. four. The extra you do to upgrade your grades and the extra steps you are taking to enable your self to be completely happy, the higher your house existence shall be. I am sorry you had such a bad experience, but keep in mind that for every story like yours there are many that their educational experiences gave them a ticket out of whatever situation they were in. You obviously learned something....you can put a sentence together with pretty good spelling and grammar and I am wondering if this was also self taught?? Teachers are up against many barriers and have a daunting job with often no parental support. I applaud all that care enough about kids and society in general to dedicate themselves to kids. Also keep in mind that part of public education is teaching kids how to adapt and conform to societal norms, schools and teachers are an integral part of this. School didn't fail you, you may have struggled to conform.

congratulations on all your achievements!
you would have only failed school in my opinion because you never listened to the teacher I bet or you were away a lot because of sickness & also school can be very boring for clever people like you & apart from the spelling & the math & history etc how would it have helped you in your trade etc it was just your brain that worked for you not what school would have taught you

I couldn't understand fractions at school but it worried me when i was about 22 so i got hold of an old math book & taught myself a bit & was very pleased with myself to think I could actually understand them

So school wasn't for you. Our "one size fits all" approach can't possibly work for everyone. I think its great that you are a problem solving kind of person. Some people are afraid to do anything on their own. What will you do if you want to make a career change to Brain Surgery?

Good for you. I read that most millionaires left school at an early age and took up a trade and made stacks of money. Perhaps you could talk to young peopla t high school and encouragethemto believe in themselves by seeking answers to problems.

Good on you for not giving up your self, when the education system failed you!

Sadly the education system is still failing young people due to lack of understanding, with some people who have some sort of learning disability. Teachers are trained to some degree how to look for signs of learning difficulties. But they cant do it alone if parents don't support them.

It also comes back to parents ensuring that their children are getting a education, having their children's eye sight checked regularly, and if they show signs of struggling, find how to best help them both at school and home.

I have Dyslexia and my mother thought with the school most of the time, simply because they did not know how to work with me. She gave them heaps of information, and suggestions as to how to help me, to help my self. Mum has dyslexia too.

Thanks to mum and a few very good teachers I managed to gain some sort of education, and have recently finished studying Certificate IV in Disabilities.

Mum is now a teacher and has some really good feed back, when it comes to people with disabilities, as she takes time to listen and work with the student, and arranges to do exams verbally.

Mum thinks that schools should be educating those at risk of falling out of the school system, life skills that will teach them how to budget, cook and care for themselves, not taught history lessons etc, that don't offer any use in the real world.

Lucky mum does not teach maths, as she hates maths, with passion. If I had math questions I would go to Dad as he blitzed maths as school.

hmmm. I did very well in high school.graduated, married and had a child. Worked butt off for 34 years, after an illness I decided to try going to college for the first time... love it. It is the most challenging, frustrating, aggravating, stimulating and expensive time of my life. Actually I am glad I never went all those years ago, what was difficult for me in HS is easy now.Yet even in college you do encounter a pitiful professor who doled out instruction by the book-blah blah blah, oh well they are few and far between

Actually you did fail school - but you didn't fail life - I am glad you made something of yourself - but it wasn't the fault of your teachers and/or your parents for that. You take ownership of your successes - take ownership of your failures as well. Good job - just don't live in denial or your will just enhance your earlier failure.

Respectfully,

Teachers teaching ways that benefit the class, not per individual student. Parents on the other hand will agree with whatever the teacher recommends, and so on. I agree with what you said, but your 'fortune' I don't believe entirely.
