Encourage him to go into a field where it isn't needed, like politics.

What happened that the education system let him get to the 7th grade without ever finding out why he can`t read? He is guaranteed an education by law, and this includes learning to read. He may have learning disabilities, as dyslexia isn`t the only learning disability. Talk to the counselors to get him tested, it is called an I. E. P., so that he can be evaluated to find out why he cannot read. If they give you problems about the testing tell them you want to go to the board of administration and file a due process. This is a complaint against the school, and the complaint would be negligence on their behalf to test your brother learning capabilities.

he's in the seventh grade and he can't read very well? That's no problem!!! Just work with him.
Now if you mean his reading level is like that of a kindergartener's, you should 1) teach him (I helped to do that with my brother when he was 3 years old and I was 7!) 2) talk to his teacher.
You can help him learn to read. You will feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Good luck :-)

I agree with many responses that you have already received. He needs to be tested, and he may need help from a reading specialist. There are some other questions you can answer as well:
How much T.V. does he watch?
How many hours does he play video games?
Both of these mediums rob children of quiet time Time that they would normally turn to reading or personal interactions with other people.

Confront him and stress how important the ability to read is in our society. Help him if you can, if not encourage him to seek help from a person he trusts to know his "secret". Not being able to read is embarrasing for many people so if possible try to not put him on the defensive while discussing the topic. There are many organizations dedicated to helping people learn to read (with no cost to you or your brother) throughout the country. Just type in your city and reading programs in a search bar and you should find plenty or resouces.

Try and sit down with him and help him to read through a complete book. Help him sound out words and maybe get him a computer program that will help him. What ever you do please do not give up. My son is at the point where he does not like to read and he is in 7th grade. Just keep trying.

Maybe he has dyslexia...?
And if not, you need to get that kid reading. You can try help programs like Hooked on Phonics. There are many others too. Or you could sit him down for half an hour every night and have him read to you.

Then I suggest one-on-one teaching on learning how to read. Everyone can read, unless they are mentaly challenged.

Sue the school system. Seriously.
And for God's sake; your parents need to teach him to read!
