Hi!

I'm currently working on my grad school application essays for b-school. One of the questions asked, "Give an example of a situation when your thinking differed from that of your collegues or superiors."

The answer (I rather passionately) want to respond is more a "failure but learning experience" essay - where I left my last company due to significant differences between my supervisor and myself. (which a lot of people left for similar reasons due to poor management) My supervisor.. while a "nice" person, was very political, always worried about loyalty, she had slow turnover of her own work while letting her subordinates do most everything. She would often blame other parties for mistakes. Granted, I was very happy to be employed there in the beginning, I worked hard and was there for 3 years, but due to a "push and pull" situation and new job offer, I left.

Of course I want to approach this tactfully, but are we allowed to talk negatively about our past employer and boss?

My academic self-confidence is to the floors right now. I am on my last semester of undergrad and I still have difficulties expressing my ideas on paper. Sometimes I question if I have a minor case of mental retardation. I just took an academic exam that required me to analyze an argument in less than an hour and I blew it! Impromptu essay questions make me look like a retard, especially when I am pressured for time.
Since high school I have struggled with writing essays and now that I’m in college I have the hardest time writing essays that require analysis and critical thinking. I’m probably the only person on the planet who can't think critically.
So you might ask: How is it that you are about to receive your bachelor’s degree? I always started on my papers weeks before they were due, and I read relevant material extensively. My last big paper was 30-pages and I got an “A” but it almost gave me an ulcer. I would become irritable and frustrated when I couldn’t put my words together, and it happened frequently. I am good with grammar and if I read more to increase my vocabulary and practiced writing essays I would catch up with things. I don’t read very much but just textbooks and when I do read for pleasure, it is material that is easy to understand. As a result from all this, I have been questioning whether I should even apply to graduate school. I will be a joke if I applied to graduate school and can’t efficiently write a comprehensive paper. I was thinking of taking a break for a year to experience life in the workforce, read new material, and then apply to graduate school. I don’t know.

I am currently attending a 4 year university to gain a B.S in diagnostic imaging (radiography). However the expenses, as expected are becoming very high. I was wondering if i were to switch to a 2 year school, it would effect my carreer. I know that i would need the BS to continue in my education however if i didn't plan on going any further, would i still make the same money as someone with a BS and would i still have just as good a chance at getting a job. Also if there are any other major differences that would be a lot of help. thanks!

Rumor has it that if a college or university considers you for a fellowship, they would like to see that you intend to obtain your Ph.D from them as well (and it should be mentioned as such in your personal statement). True or false? I have also heard that it's not a good idea to study at the same institution for your bachelors *and* masters. Does that hold true for masters and Ph.D degress too? What should I include and what should I not include on my personal statement? Any other general suggestions about the personal statement are welcomed. :-)
Thank you for your advice!

I just need some information about a paper I'm doing. I'm trying to prove that general music classes should be required at a young age (K-8) because I've heard it makes you more open in learning. (You learn better) In my highschool, that was the case. The band students had higher GPA's compared to the other students. Does anyone know of any research that has proven this?

My kid is in an honors college. Perks are (1) early registration (2) a nicer dorm closer to classrooms (3) honors seminars on topics of interest to professors; (4) a faculty mentor, in addition to an advisor. Negatives are (1) the honors kids have to take a certain number of honors classes, which means that their electives are limited; (2) kids in the honors dorm aren't invited to parties, and my kid complains that the other freshman honors students keep talking about their high school accomplishments and are extremely competitive to the point of insanity. He's doing great academically, but says that he doesn't get the point of an honors diploma. He wants to quit the honors program and use his electives to pick up a double major. His scholarship wouldn't be affected if he dropped honors. What do you think?
