I was wondering if anyone know anyone that graduated from their online program and what jobs people currently have...

Capella University is a joke. The Chronicle of Higher Education recently published an article about the perceptions that HR directors have. The most revealing comment noted that,

"Silvia Guzman, regional human-resources manager for ProTec Building Services, likens online degrees to diploma mills or institutions that advertise on career Web sites promising to help you earn a degree in a year.

"The online degree is not weighed as heavily as a traditional degree," says Ms. Guzman, who hires people for a range of positions, including publishing, administration, and building engineering. "It's almost like, oh, you're purchasing a degree."

She mentioned several universities that raise red flags for her when she sees them on résumés, including Capella University, an accredited for-profit online institution, and the University of Phoenix, an accredited for-profit institution that has both classroom and online programs."

Both are regionally accredited which makes them legit. They are among the very few places to get a regionally accredited doctorate by distance learning. Others include Argosy, Nova Southeastern, UoP, and North Central U.

If you're looking for a bachelor's or a master's, there are options for you that are less costly and have a higher reputation. For example UMass or U Florida (there are plenty of others).

If you're after a doctorate for the purpose of finding a college teaching gig then these might not help you a lot unless you want to teach college online or at a small tier 4. For almost all other purposes (business or secondary ed), their reputation is fine.

As reputation of doctorate awarding schools go, these are down the ladder a bit. They aren't at the bottom - but they aren't very high up either. That said, if your options are a Walden PhD or nothing -- the Walden PhD is better than the nothing. Much of the utility depends on what you intend to do with the degree.

Accreditation is a minimum requirement, and both these schools are regionally accredited, so they're not bogus. However, both Walden and Capella have very low reputations. Anyone claiming a PhD from these schools is just laughed at by people who know. You might get a job with a Capella or Walden degree - not all HR people are aware of these issues - but you'll forever be at risk of being labeled a loser.

If you absolutely need a distance degree, I recommend you get one from a respected "brick & mortar" school which also offers its programs on-line.
