Requirements at Stanford, what would you do? Currently Im a senior in high school, HELP!!! Which one? What would you do? I am writing to request the removal of the grades for the courses SC/PSYC 3250 P, SC/PSYC 3500 P and SC/PSYC 3590 P, all taken during the Winter semester of 2004.
The reason why I believe I did poorly during this semester is that my grandfather passed away on March 11th, 2004. When my grandfather started getting progressively sick, we were making a lot of phone calls to check on my grandfather's health, since he was in and out of the hospital for several months. It was a very difficult time for me to concentrate on my studying. When my grandfather passed away, my mother flew back home and left my younger brother and myself. I was put under a lot of pressure to take care of my studies and my brother and I was very upset over my grandfather's departure.
I was put under a lot of emotional distress from my grandfather's departure as well as pressure to complete the courses at school, to the best of my ability. I believe that if I was not so stressed, I would have achieved a lot better.

I taught some pretty smart college students but they couldn't think outside the box. I asked a class if they were pro-death penalty and if so why? Some said they were because "That way, the killer can't kill again." I said, "You could blind the person or chop off his arms and put him in jail--wouldn't have much of a chance that way. They said, "Yuck, that's digusting." 2) I put two options on the board: "Electrocute slowly" and "Drown slowly." I said, Somebody killed someone you love. You can choose how the killer dies. Which would you pick? It was about 50-50. I said, "Hey, are you all for the death penalty?" Some said they weren't. I said, "Then why didn't you just say, "I wouldn't choose either." They said, "Because that wasn't one of the choices." 3) I said, why is the following deceptive: "No aspirin is better than Bayer aspirin." 70 students thought it meant Bayer was the best. I said, duh, it doesn't say that. It just says they're all the same." Is there any hope?

Hi,
I'm currently attending a pretty highly regarded school (Think Harvard, Yale, MIT, Stanford, Princeton) etc.
How much does a degree from a school like this really help in getting a job? Also how much does GPA matter if you go to one of these schools? I'm a freshman and have a 3.2 right now, and so far it is hard for me to get good grades. I think as soon as I can take just engineering classes it will go up though. I am majoring in Comp Sci and want to get a job in the field.

Do employers care about freshmen grades? How about business school or top Grad schools (MIT, Stanford etc)? Doe s the "branding" of a top school at least make them look at GPA differently at all?
Thanks
R

My friend is currently in high school. She is really stressed out about what Ivy League Colleges are looking for in students. She drives herself crazy trying to participate in a bunch of clubs, sports, etc. I tell her that doing so much isn't going to help if she doesn't do any of it well. Are there any students out there that could give her some advice?

WVU has one of the most prestegious music departments in the world, but the faculty I've met are nothing but a bunch of jerks. Marshall, on the other hand, is not too well known, but the music faculty does know what they're talking about and I think would get the job done better because they have more time on their hands.

My future career is Music Education. Which school do you all think would be better?

I received my Associates in Business Administration from Nichols College, and my final GPA was a 3.87. Before that, I went to the University of Montana for a semester and received a 3.8 GPA. I am keeping my Business degree, because I already have so many credits toward it, but for the past year I have been taking classes part time to satisfy my pre-med pre-reqs. I am taking these classes at one of the City University of New York campuses, but I'm transfering to a school out west to finish up undergrad full time as I'm getting out of the service. As long as I keep my GPA around a 3.9 and do well on my MCATs, should I have a good shot at getting in? Also, will being in the military better serve me, as it adds diversity to my resume?

I went to a community college about 10-11yrs ago. Didn't do too well due to certain circumstances at the time and dropped out. Now years later I have re-enrolled and am in the middle of my 2nd semester. I received A's & B's last semester and am currently on track to receive the same grades again in my classes this semester. Obvioulsy life is much different now in my late twenties then when I was 18. I am completely dedicated to finishing school first at the community college and then transfering to another school to get my Bachelors. I just received a call from the school counselor saying I am up for academic dismissal because of my grades from 1996???? I am totally surprised. Can they actually do this? I am going to meet with someone on Monday.

Either I take remedial courses in college next year or I study a lot in the next 5 months and take a placement exam to be put in a normal college class. How can I reteach myself the stuff I missed when I was sick and couldn't attend school? (I ended up failing Algebra 2 that year) I have two algebra books on hand for a limited time that I was thinking of copying some pages out of.
