I know that they discontinued the stamp program at Subway about a year, but why?

I'm guessing that it's because fraud was rampant in that program. As a former Subway employee back in the mid-90s, I know the theft that went on with the stamps. Things like friends of employees getting hooked up with many stamps for free sandwiches, customers reaching over the counter to work the stamp machine to help themselves to free stamps (yes, I caught people doing this!), etc..

And then when I left, the program was modified so that you needed about a third less stamps for a free sandwich but you had to now buy a drink. Boy, people were griping when that was introduced, but I personally didn't mind buying a drink seeing as I no longer had to buy 2-4 extra sandwiches like in the past. Some people can't see the forest for the trees, I suppose, but I digress...

Anyway, anyone know why the program disappeared? Are you sad to see it go? Personally, I go for the food, not the free stuff!

Assuming the server did a good job, what does everyone think is an appropriate tip? 10%? 15%? 20%? 25%? As a server, I am just curious as to finding out what some people are thinking when they go out to eat, get great service, and then leave a crappy tip. Please explain why this happens.

I'm taking my parents to the Metropolitan opera on Saturday for the matinee. It's a big deal for them to be in the city (they live 4 hours away). I've lived there, so I'm jaded. I'm looking for something moderately priced, but something they can tell their friends about.

I was thinking Carmine's in Times Square, but the wait's long and we'll have a long drive back home.

Any suggestions?

Specifically, I am looking for a place that has light, slow music that people can dance to. A restaurant that has all this would be a plus.

Please do not suggest Shampoo, Cuba Libre, Egypt or other similiar places.

if not.... succulenticity should be!

if an elastic band loses its stretchiness, it loses its elasticity.
If a piece of food looses its succulentness or becomes less succulent, it loses its succulenticity... doesnt it?

I was on a business trip to Chicago and was amazed at the way some bars were ID-ing people who were obviously over 50 and others didn't seem to ask at all? If it is the law and enforced I'ed expect all of them to do it, if it is not the law then why are they so stupid?

I'm just curious as to what kind of tips people tip the pizza delivery people across the U.S. Do you base it on the price? Do you have a set tip that you're going to give them no matter what? Do you base it on how the person who took your order was? Just wondering...
