I quite like the Wetherspoons pub chain as they are excellent value for money but not knowing the Swindon area too well I don't know about the quiet or romantic extent. Try their website www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk. If you are looking for good food and good ale you could do no better than contacting the Campaign for Real aAe. They have an excellent guide called the GoodFood Guide last written by Susan Knowak. Some really excellent places listed in it. The local Branch should help. You can find out your local group by contacting the CAMRA head office in St Albans. For me personally the pub with a good food elenet is better thean a restaurant
