Years ago, my wife and I encountered a road-side stand somewhere in Ontario. It was selling a concoction consisting of french fries, mozarella cheeze, and meat gravy. It tasted incredibly good....much better than it sounds! The name was something like "poutaine", but I doubt if that is correct. Does anyone know what it is actually called? The proprieter claimed it was a common food in the region, and he was surprised that we Americans had never had it before.

Should a server at a restaurant feel entitled to a 15% tip for something they're already being paid to do? If you go out for a meal, get a regular "hello, here are our specials for the night", "ready to order?", "hows everything" and the typical "THANKS!" written on your receipt, do they really deserve that 15%? Do you tip even though you get lousy service? What is your view on tipping?

Hey,

I am thinking about going out on a date in a "semi-fancy" restaurant, with the problem being that I've never been to one before. The question: when I get to the restaurant is it expected that we order an appetizer, main meal, and desert + wine? I am not asking this just to know whether I can get away with going to a restaurant without paying too much, I am just not sure what are the "rules" in the fancy restaurants.

Also, I am thinking about spending roughly 150CAD for the 2 of us, and looking for a non-Asian cuisine (maybe Italian). Could you recommend a place in Toronto (downtown, or south of Y&E). I've been told to check out the CN Tower 360 restaurant, but I've also heard that it could easily go way over my budget.

Any input is very appreciated.

Cheers.

Is that a question people always ask in canada?

I'm looking for activities in Toronto or the GTA that don't require car travel. Myself and my girlfriend are both teens, under 19 (not by much..) and rely on the GO train/TTC.

So far the only things I can think of is the CN Tower or a Jays game. She's not from here and is only visiting for a month.

Cheers.

My friend and I would like to go for a few drinks but somewhere that's not too loud. We're in our early 20's and are more laid back type of guys. Any suggestions?

Going there for the weekend and wanted to see if anyone has been or heard of any good steahouses in that area.

Rather not go to a chain restaurant, ex: Chris' Ruths', Longhorn, etc..

Does anyone have a recommendation for a restaurant or baker that makes really good cheesecake in the Vancouver/Burnaby area. I'm spending the August long weekend there.

I have a group of about 15 people and we are thinking about having lunch there in August. We were wondering what the food quality was like (taste, temp, ect), service, and the general attire required.
