I saw a program recently showing huge cables coming up from underneath the beach in Devon and they said they went all the way to America, Australia etc. How on earth were these cables laid in the late 1800's? It'd be hard enough in a modern world. It's not a joke, they're still there today going from the south of the UK all across the world! Surely they dont just rest on the suurface of the sea, how did they make cables long enough and connect them all?

Have just moved and really want to get cable tv/broadband installed. Sky seem to be offering the best deals but don't currently have a landline.
In my last place BT charged me a small fortune to install a landline so just wondering if anybody else can do it.

As a telephone tech I am curious what this is. I had just recently heard of this and haveing a hard time understanding how someone could do this with the current technology. The only thing I have read is talking about the old telephone switches.

I need a free wake up call service. I tried looking in the phone book under "wake up calls" but that section doesn't exist. Do you know any wake up call services/numbers that are free and that I can use?

A wake up call service is when you call them and tell them to wake you up by calling you at a certain time. You give them the time.
