I'm considering getting a digital camcorder, and I'd like to do video editing on my PC, but I don't have a firewire port (or any free slots for a firewire port.) Is there another way to upload videos from a camcorder to a PC?

My camcorders battery life is short. I will buy some new batteries but I am looking for a battery that lasts for at least 12 hours. I was curious if there is an external battery that plugs into a camcorders DC input. I have seen these on professional photographers belts but I want to know where to get one myself.

It needs to film at a depth of around 100ft in fairly murky freshwater and able to be attached to a chain or rope from a boat. I can add lighting myself so this is not a major requirement. Sound is also not necessay. Any webistes that can help??

I am looking for a digital video camera under $200.00 that has good quality and lots of battery life. I also want an easy playback mode, where I can just stop taping and watch it on the camera and not have to plug it into a TV or anything. Any good digital video cameras that have these features? Thanks for all your help!

I am purchasing a Sony HVR-Z1u, and I want to get a wide angle lens to go with it. There a cheaper one that's .8x, and a more expensive one that's .7x. Would the .8x be "wider"? Whould either of those lens produce an image of a landscape that had the sides curve up? I kind of like the "skewed" look, but want to know the difference between the lens. Thanks!

When do you think they will discontinue Hi8/8mm cassettes, because Sony (the only company that made Hi8 camcorders recently) basicly stopped making there Hi8 handycams and how Hi8 technology is now out of date.

The camera takes still pictures and store them on tape (and not on a memory card). But is it possible to transfer them on a PC and make an animation just using a standard editing software?
Thanks for sharing any tips or experience you might have!
Cheers!

I have a JVC VHS-C camcorder from about 1998, and recently everything I record with it plays back with a rolling picture. You can see the picture frame literally move from top to bottom (or from bottom to top) as it plays back. The picture looks like one on an old TV with the vertical hold slightly out of adjustment. And it doesn't matter whether I play it back through the camera or through my home VCR -- the picture rolls on playback through either system. Sounds like a recording problem to me. The camera is old, but has not been used much in its 9 years. What is the problem? Can it be adjusted out by me? If not, is it even worth pursuing a repair? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm looking to buy a video camera, possibly and HD one (price is not too important, but obviously the cheaper the better). The most important thing to me is not video quality, but sound quality. I will be taking a trip to the rainforest soon and want a camera that can capture all the sounds cleanly without wind or other distortion.

A friend of mine works for a small camera store, recently he did a test shoot with several makes/models of digital cameras and video recorders. All the shots were viewed raw and unedited, he found that a few squished things vertically or horizontally, but he won't say which ones do this.
I want to buy a digital video recorder, but I do not want to have to "stretch" the output to the proper aspect ratio.

So, how do I get a good DVR without knowing the CCDs vertical and horizontal resilution?

Sorry, but my question didn't fit the whole silly thing, but anyways:

What is the best movie making software of any CPU (Windows cpu) that i can use for school projects with all proffesional effects (ex: blood stains, or fake rain). Also please tell me the best video camera, that will be able to be tranfered to the movie maker, (because some softwares don't accept the videos). Please tell me the best of the best. Thanks to all. :)

When you finalize a mini DVD from a camera, does it prevent you from being able to move it to your computer?

I'm doing a video for someone and when I put the disk in my computer it says that it's empty. When the disk is in the video camera I am able to see the video. The girl said she finalized the disk, and I didn't know if that affects being able to pull it onto the computer...

Recently my Sony Digital 8 camcorder crashed and im in the middle of making a video. I need a way to upload the video i have already recorded with my Digital 8 camcorder. The only thing i can think of is buying a camera, uploading the video, and returning the camera back to the store. I cant find any Digital 8 camcorders so I may have to use a Hi8 camcorder. Will this work??

Looking for an Inexpensive MiniDV player.
Easier than constantly hooking up the camcorder,
since some plugs are hard to get to.
Have seen Pro versions that cost an arm and leg.
Would like a simple one, but will settle for a combo unit.

I plugged in my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV280 into my computer's firewire port with a firewire cable. It opened up a Add New Hardware window. I chose the bubble that said "Install the software automatically," and clicked next. It began searching but ended saying "Cannot install this hardware." I saw that the camera came with a disk, so I installed the disk, which was Sony Picture Package 1.5, but again, same response, I thought for sure that if I installed the disk it would work, but I guess not, someone please help, I need to get the video onto my computer.
