I am purchasing a Sony HVR-Z1u, and I want to get a wide angle lens to go with it. There a cheaper one that's .8x, and a more expensive one that's .7x. Would the .8x be "wider"? Whould either of those lens produce an image of a landscape that had the sides curve up? I kind of like the "skewed" look, but want to know the difference between the lens. Thanks!

0.7x is a wider angle, but to get a curved look, you need to get a fisheye lens 0.4x or less. And yes, it's possible to get the look even if you don't have interchangeable lenses. Hope this helps!

The 0.7 gives a wider view. These are technically not primary lenses but filter adaptors, which is why they can't give the extreme look you were hoping for. To get the more severe look you need a camera that takes interchangeable lenses.
