I plugged in my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV280 into my computer's firewire port with a firewire cable. It opened up a Add New Hardware window. I chose the bubble that said "Install the software automatically," and clicked next. It began searching but ended saying "Cannot install this hardware." I saw that the camera came with a disk, so I installed the disk, which was Sony Picture Package 1.5, but again, same response, I thought for sure that if I installed the disk it would work, but I guess not, someone please help, I need to get the video onto my computer.

With any new hardware you need to install the software before plugging in the hardware. Your disc should include a driver as well as Picture package which I guess is an editing program. Check that there weren't two discs with the camera, one for the driver and the other with software. If that isn't the case, try going to Start>run and type in the letter of the drive in which you placed the disc. Then click 'browse' which will open the disc and you can look to see if there is a driver listed. If that doesn't work, look at the Sony website and where you should be able to find and download the driver for the camera.
