I want to just reinstall Windows Vista. I have gotten to the last step which is like completing installation. It has been there for over an hour. I am just wondering if it is supposed to take that long. If not, can I like restart the computer or something so it possibly will work? Do I have to put in another CD?

Thank you for your help.

I am a student and will mainly be writing papers, some of them may be lengthy. I use it for letters, an occational flyer, but really nothing else. Word is about $110, while Works 9 is $40.

Is there a real need for me to get Word as opposed to Works 9? My computer came with no word processing ability aside from WordPad and NotePad, which to me are worthless.

My laptop is a $300 unit, which I will probably hand down to my daughter, or just completely get rid of it once I graduate college.

What would you suggest?

thanks!

I am just wondering.... in the past sometimes, i will just delete the folder of a program form C hard drive area (programs and....), does this get rid of the program completely? Or do i actually have to go to control panel and everything? What if i delete the folder and then go to control panel and it is gone, does that mean its actually gone?

I currently have Windows XP and I am looking to try Kubuntu and Beryl, but I want to keep Windows at the same time. I know I have to divide my hard drive or something so that when my computer turns on I have the choice of using Kubuntu or Windows. How do I do this? Also, where can I get Kubuntu and Beryl, and is there any programs/games that don't work with Kubuntu. Also, when I divide my hard drive will I loose any saved files that I currently have with Windows? Also, when I divide my hard drive, does this mean I will only have half the space with Windows and half the space with Kubuntu? And if I decide I don't like Kubuntu, is it possible to "undivide" my hard drive and change back to just Windows? I know Kubuntu is different than Windows in the sense that you have to manually install things, could you please give me some tips as to how to do this and on anything else I should know.

I have a purchased copy of Transmit that I use for FTPing. When I created a new user account on the Mac for my wife, I noticed that Transmit doesn't work while logged on as her. It asks me to purchase. I have to log off and log back on as me. How can I fix this?

OK I need some help, badly. I downloaded a movie from Veoh.com and now I want to convert it from .MPEG to .AVI so I could make an AMV (Anime Music Video) I tried downloading some software to convert it, but it stopped 45% through and froze, telling me I would have to buy their full version thing.
I am NOT buying anything, and I am NOT going to settle for only half of what I want converted.
I've been trying to convert for three days now, and quite frankly I'm sick of it!
The video works in Windows Media Player, but whenever I try to drag it into Windows Movie Maker, it doesn't do ANYTHING. No freezing, no loading, no waiting time, NOTHING.
Don't tell me to open it in Windows Media Player and save it as an .AVI because WMP 11 won't let me save it like that. I'm pissed off, clearly, and I'm running out of patience.
Thank you in advance!

I have a project due this week and my teacher specified that we have to have a blueprint slide. I asked her what that meant and she didn't really tell me. I have searched everywhere and all I can find are templates that have a blueprint design on them, as in the blueprints to a building. Is this probably what she means?

Thank you!

I have win vista home premium and it crashes all the time. Mostly it will lock up when I play a movie or music of any format. After it locks up it will give me a blue screen (which I have no time to read cause its up only for a few seconds before it reboots). It also has locked up several times in yahoo music & other programs I use lock up. I have a brand new system with nothing added to it but yahoo messanger and win updates (important only). yet it still crashes. even when i use the dvd maker it will crash. all in all vista sucks and im ready to buy a mac just to boycott microsoft, but before I do that I would like to try and fix vista. any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated....

Ive got a computer thats half descent (and in peices) but I havent used it in about a year. So what ive decided to do is to Put a linux on it, so that I can play around with it and familiarise myself with the OS, annd then eventauly i might even start using it like i do my Windows PC.

But theres a problem- I dont know which one to install!
Fedora * look samazing, btu Ive heard its quite advanced, and ive heard ok things about Debian and Ubuntu.

What Linux Distro should I go for with me beng an absolute beginner, only ever used MacOSX and Windows on a regular basis?

Please give reasons for your choice, Im after one that user friendly and not too difficult to use for internet, documents and instaling the damn wireless USB Dongle!

Thanks for your help,
Tom

Yesterday when I booted my computer I got this message:

"Windows could not start because of error in the software.
Please report this problem as :
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support system to report this problem"

My computer was working fine and then all of a sudden I get this message. I tried to reinstall windows, but it wouldn't let me. Something came up telling me that im missing some files named hal.dll , and also missing ntosknrl.exe. I'm at a loss on what to do next. I thought formatting the drive using the windows xp cd would do the trick, now I can't even do that. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to solve this problem? I would greatly appreciate it.
