because Vista has higher hardware demands, mostly it needs more ram and a better video card than XP does. when somebody tries to install vista on an older computer that wasn't designed to run it, their ignorance leads them to anger and they resort to the tried and true XP. If you have a decent hardware setup i.e., 2 gigs of ram, dual core processors, and a video card with around 256 MBs of video memory you won't have any problems. there were some driver issues when vista first came out, but almost all of those have been taken care of by now.

That was on a Mac commercial..haha

I've had both, and I prefer XP. I think Microsoft went all-out on designing Vista. Like they were trying to design it for computer-illiterate people or something. It's so simple, but that's the problem. It totally lost the interface XP and lower versions used to have. They tried fixing XP, therefore producing Vista, to compete with Mac and it's oh-so-awesome interface and experience. But sometimes things don't need to be fixed. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Well, there you go. They attempted fixing Windows when it wasn't broke.

I think many people are not giving Vista a chance.
I have both - XP on my desktop and Vista on my laptop.
I have set Vista to "classic view" - which makes it look like XP -- and which helps the user get around more readily.
Also, there are many help sources available. Check these out.

I personally prefer XP as there are a lot less bugs to be sorted out. I think that through trial and error, XP has become reasonably workable. I find Vista confusing. It's similar to a Mac interface
