Start, left click, from menu control panel, left click. find and double left click on that icon, In the list find all scanner/printer soft ware and uninstall ALL.
Once done try a reinstall of all soft ware from the CD that came with it!

When the computer crashed (cause?), you probably lost or corrupted some files necessary for the scanner. Uninstall its remains (Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) and reinstall the software. This supposes that you still have the installation disks. If not, you can probably download the software (to a new folder on the desktop) from the manufacturer.

Many times if your computer crashed, you will need to make sure your scnner, or printer is plugged in and re use the cd that came with the scanner and re-download the drivers to get it to work.
Depending on the severity of the crash and what was done, especially if you had to re -download the operating system to get your computer to work again.

First answer these:
What brand is your scanner
What kind of computer do you have
Follow these steps after:
Google the brand name and go on to the brand's official site.
Find the following words: Tech support, troubleshooting, IT
Find the type of scanner in their site.
This is what i do if no one really knows how to fix it.
P.S. don't get discouraged if they are using words you don't understand. Just use a dictionary if faced with a problem like that

You probably need to reinstall the software that came with the scanner. If you don't have the disk anymore, try going to the scanner manufacturer's website and download the software from there.
