Yesterday when I booted my computer I got this message:

"Windows could not start because of error in the software.
Please report this problem as :
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support system to report this problem"

My computer was working fine and then all of a sudden I get this message. I tried to reinstall windows, but it wouldn't let me. Something came up telling me that im missing some files named hal.dll , and also missing ntosknrl.exe. I'm at a loss on what to do next. I thought formatting the drive using the windows xp cd would do the trick, now I can't even do that. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to solve this problem? I would greatly appreciate it.

When I ran the Windows XP Pro CD to repair or format, it started loading and then it stopped telling me that I was missing a file named hal.dll , and ntosknrl.exe. So it woulnd let me repair or format.

"I thought formatting the drive using the windows xp cd (legal FULL, UPGRADE or OEM version?) would do the trick, now I can't even do that." Error messages, PLEASE!!!

" My computer is broken.", My printer won't work." and "I get some error message." are examples of how NOT to get good tech support. Phrases like these don't tell us enough to figure out what is actually wrong. Tell us what happened, NOT what didn't!!!

Please re-post with the name of the program you are using, a description of your specific problem, all error messages, word for word, and your PC make & model, components (if applicable), and operating system used.

If your machine hasn't completely given up the ghost, reboot the darn thing FIRST, then see if you can re-create the problem, taking careful notes on everything YOU DO AND SEE on the screen along the way.

Write down any and all error messages you encounter and don't leave out any of the "techno-gobbledy-goop", because that's more important than anything you can say.

Then, we can try to help.
