Hi from what i can understand once Vista is installed on a new PC or laptop there is no way it can be changed, the company that my partner works for are currently receiving orders for new batches of laptops and PCs to come with xp rather than the new vista its causing so many problems for people

You cannot over write Vista with XP. All recent Windows OS's recognize whether they are a newer version or not and will not over write a newer version.
For example, if you have XP with Service Pack 2 installed and you try to install a basic copy of XP over it, XP w/SP2 won't let it happen.
You have 3 choices as I see it.
1. Blow your hard drive away by reformatting it and install a copy of XP.
2. Get some "partitioning" software and create another partition to install XP on and then you can selectively have your PC boot up to XP by setting it up in the bios.
NOTE: You must have sufficient free space on your current hard drive to do this.
3. Install a 2nd hard drive in your PC and install XP on it. Then select the 2nd hard drive to be your boot device in the bios.
NOTE: Your laptop must have a space for a 2nd hard drive, OR you can get an external hard drive and run XP that way.
Hope this helps.

If you have a xp cd, from a older pc, just install it, by inserting the cd and boot from it.(choose to reformat the harddrive, to completely get rid of all vista leftovers)
You will have to re-activate it, trough the free phone service, and install the new drivers for your new model, but that shouldn't be a big problem when you go to the manufacturers website
