Software - October 2007

I am a poor college student. I purchased Microsoft Office, which I could barely afford. I bought it from a website that is now gone. One day when I attempted to do an online update, it said that my copy was un-Authentic and that I needed to send my CD’s to Microsoft in exchange for an Authentic copy, for free. So I send this to them along with my sales receipt. A few months later, I receive a letter from Microsoft saying that they decided to keep my CD’s, not replace them with new ones, that I should purchase a new one, and that they appreciate my assistance in helping to stop software piracy. Well now I am out lots of money, am out this software, and Microsoft is being arrogant. I am completely lost on this issue. What in the world can I do? It was always my intention to be honest and pay for this software, but Bill Gate's company doesn't seem to care about that.

I want a sound to play when I start limwire only limewire is not on the list of program to change sounds when I go to the sound tab in sounds and audio devices in control panel... How do I add LimeWire there or get it to show up there?

ok i got a file in microsoft word that i want to print it out. the problem is, there would be too many pages if i print it out. is there is way where i can format it such that when i print it out, it would be DOUBLE SIDED with 2 columns on each side. so basically, i can have 4 pages of notes onto 1 piece of paper.

After i installed applications and stuff, my mac is slow on booting up. especially when you download haxies from unsanity. what can I do to speed up the boot time on my mac? show me all the steps. if theres progress, i might as well give a best answer..

The new Dells come with windows pre-installed and without a reinstallation CD for Windows. Does anybody know how to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows on such a machine without a disc?

recently i have install windows 2000, i thought it will look better than xp and work better than xp too but that disappointed me. windows 2000 look like windows 98 and their function also look like that and limited. my few friends have this but their produce looking much better than xp and there are lots of functions to work on it. i am student and study computer network and server, i just start it. few friends told me that i must install service pack to made it latest one and better than win xp. i find that there are four service pack available on net including microsoft website. would you please any body give me knowledge about that i have to install all four service packs or i can install last and latest one? is service pack 4 us upgrade version of sp3 or all service pack are different and individual produce to upgrade win2k? how to install download service pack on win2k? i know and i did that for win xp according to online instruction i had download xp sp2 and made win xp sp2 boot

my computer has gone bezerk! i have a list of around ten things that has gone wrong with my computer, it's not old it's on'y about 5 months old and ever since i got it its been going crazy on me!
it's an hp pavillion a6040a home pc
intel pentium D processer 935
with windows vista home edition.
i will beginmy list of things gone wrong with it.
ok...... beware, it's shocking.

1) it doesn't download programmes from the internet. like flash player or messengers or security programmes, well it doesn't download anything really.

2) it doesn't have any sound (yes it's on full volume and i have tried to fix it many times and it only worked one time when i fixed it but it only worked for about five minutes and i never got it working again.

3) it crashes all of the time, when it crashes it says what it's saying, there are usually two different messages that come up, i only remember one though, one of the messages says PAGED_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA i forgot the other message.

HI, I ran windows update today and it asks me to update with KB27891 when I get the option for high priority updates, it says that download size is 0KB and wont let me install the update does anyone know how to fix this? im using XP Thanks

I downloaded seven .rar files that i decompressed and it gave me a 7 .bin files and 7 .cue files. What I supposedly downloaded is an ea sports videogame for pc but with thees 14 files in my pc, i have no idea how to make it work.
could som1 help me? does anyone have any idea if there's a program i'm supposed to use to make my pc read the files?

I just recently purchased a Windows Vista Home Basic Upgrade disk... I was able to install and activate it which is great but, I am afraid that my hard drive may soon go... as it's an older machine. Will I be able to re-install and activate on a new hard drive using the same key? Or because its been activated, will it no longer work?

I have version 7.0.5730.11 if that matters. I've been running the same version for over a year, never a problem. I restart the PC and that temporarily solves the problem. I have a cable modem connection. Run-of-the-mill Windows firewall enabled, Norton Antivirus up and running - nothing new there either. Recently I ran the disk cleanup application... I have XP for an OS, home edition. Thanks.

I just installed Front page 2003 and need to learn how to use it.

I have built web pages before but only using a server program. Now I am being offered some work building web sites if I can learn how to use Front Page 2003.

Learning from hands on expierence is how I learn best. Book learning is difficult for me unless it is step by step and written so a kid could understand it.

I miss the books that taught with pictures, it was a breeze for me to learn from them.

Does anyone have a book they can reccomend that would be fast and easy to learn from for a beginner like me?

Why do you feel this book is better than others out there?

i was customizing my toolbars today and was using a crappy mouse. i dragged the AutoFilter from the Data menu onto my toolbar, right-clicked it to change the name and when i left-clicked the text (to change it), it, like, pulled it off the toolbar and it just disappeared. i have tried looking in the help menu. this happened to me once before (with the AutoFilter no less) and i figured it out. this time i'm stuck. PLEASE HELP!!!

In other words, if you had one file that contained 1,000 pictures from a camera. You knew that some of them were duplicates even though they did not have the same file name. The only way I can think of being able to solve this problem would be to scrub it against software that could visually recognize duplicates.
