The new Dells come with windows pre-installed and without a reinstallation CD for Windows. Does anybody know how to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows on such a machine without a disc?

there is a feature called pc restore.
1. restart the computer and as soon as you see the dell logo, hit ctrl + f11.

(this might not work for the first 2 3 times, but keep trying till you see a different screen.)

2. select the option that has the "restore" word.

wait for the process to complete. it takes a maximum of 20 minutes.

if this does'nt work, call tech support for the OS reinstallation cds. you can get telephone support if the computer is under warranty.

good luck!

The Recovery Disk image is on the hard drive.

Read The Friendly Manual (RTFM) for your Dell and follow the re-installation instructions and “How To's” to the letter.

Still Stuck?

Call the manufacturer for tech support.

There is a recovery partition accessed by a function key on boot. Read the handbook that came with the machine to find out more about it.

I think its usually different w/ different computers. IF I am not mistaking, the one I have requires you to hold shift/control and hit the F11 key while the comp boots up. If that does NOT work, go to support.dell.com and look for it under the forums there.

Call dell and tell them you need a restoration cd. They should be able to send you one.

It should be on a partition. Check the manual for details.
