I want to buy Photoshop, but the the CS3 version costs about $700, and I'm not prepared to pay that much. Are there any other programs or versions comparable to Photoshop that cost $100 or less?

Adobe Photoshop Elements is about $100 and is a stripped down version.

Picasa and Gimp are free downloads with less capability.

If you are going to try to get professional results you really need PhotoShop. Nothing else has all the capability. If you just want to fool around with cleaning up photos for your own entertainment then the others will do all you need.

The GIMP is pretty comparable to P'Shop and it's completely free. Get GIMP and add GimpShop and it's practically the same thing.
