Not only did I lose all of my icons, I also lost "Start". What do I do?

I am buying a top-of-the-line Dell computer and want to keep it virus/spyware free. What single solution is best? I would prefer a one-time cost as opposed to a "subscription." I have AOL. Does their safety/security suite do the trick? Thanks.

I am working with Windows ME at the moment and am upgrading to XP. I would like to take my photos with me and also keep the CD for backup. I hate WinME and cannot wait to be rid of it. I just don't want to loose my photos. (About 500 of them shot with 5.5 megapixels if that matters.)

I started downloading a torrent on BitComet the other day and got 90% of it downloaded. I shut down and attempted to resume the next day, but all it says is that its uploading the file, while the download stays at 0% activity - how do I get the download to resume, as I don't want to abort when so much of the file is already downloaded

For instance- At the beginning of the week, I already have information in row 1, columns A - Z. On the 2nd workday, I would like my total to be the sum of A1. On the 3rd workday, I would like my total to be the sum of A1 + A2. On the 4th workday, I would like my total to be the sum of A1 + A2 + A3. Is this possible? When you bring up Windows Task Manager and then click the PROCESSES tab, you can see what your puter is running, right? Well how do you get rid of the excess stuff, or is that wise to do? For instance, I have 9 instances of "svchost.exe" running. Isn't that my interenet service and why are there so many? Some say NETWORK, some say SYSTEM and one says LOCAL next to it.

I normally have no trouble with my media player but sometimes when I try to play a video a message pops up saying:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

Then I have the option to either close or go to web help
but web help is useless.

and the video wont work on real player or my other media players.
please help
