Which the the defaulting program? Can you give some names? If the program in question is not used by you, please un-install it.
Scan your system for virus/adware/spyware also. Maybe some malicious software has gotten into your PC.

Are you running xp and if so do you have the xp cd? If so configure set up to boot from cd rom then select fix errors from the cd menu.
