Software - January 2007

I've been playing Full SPectrum Warriors: 10 Hammers since it first came out, but I have yet to beat it. The reason is somple: I get pretty far into the game, and them something happens to my computer that requires me to reformat the hard drive (virus, corrupted boot record, more virus, etc). I have been able to locate any "saved game" information for this game. All of my other games have files where user data is stored, I don't see why this game would be different. However, I don't see anything in the C:\Program Files\FSW\ directories that looks like saved game data. Anyone have any ideas? The data MUST be there, I just don't know what I'm looking for.

I Have a Mac G5 and I no how 2 open .exe files but after i do open the files it gives me .dll files and .tlb files i was wanting 2 no does any body no how 2 open the files or how 2 convert them 2 mac format thx

How often are you supposed to have updates for your computer??? I have Windows XP home edition and every time I am on the computer the Windows Updater comes up. Sometimes when i don't even install something, i go to turn off the computer it says "turn off to download updates" or whatever.

i went to the security thing and i turned off automatic updates because i know there cannot be this many, and Windows has a freaking fit and this red shield appears on the task bar and the only way to get rid of it is to turn automatic updates back on.... but since my computer is a whacko the yellow shield comes back.

I know there are no viruses on my computer so don't even suggest it. i am just wondering if there is a way i can stop it, and if there are even this many updates

What does this mean - having the PC running at an extremely slow speed. I ran the PC through Antivirus, and Ewido, and nothing's come up. I've defragged it, but it always sounds 'busy', like it's running another program in the background, maybe?
How do I find out, and what could be the cause of this?

I hear alot of bad stuff on peer to peer programs. A couple of my friends use it to check out stuff before they buy it (mostly comics and anime toons they are interested in, so they look at it and buy the real version if they liked it). Which is somewhat the reason why other people who download the stuff do that, or just to get free stuff.

Anyways what I don't get is if there was a service which was more legal so that the product isnt permanantly taken/saved, so that a person got to check it out without having to buy it, yet doesnt get the choice to just keep it permanantly. Also maybe be able to order the product using this program.

i use windows xp professional. i started to back up all my computer onto an external hard disk using the windows utility provided for this.
it is now asking me to insert a floppy disk to make an emergency start up disk. unfortunately, just yesterday i threw all my floppies away thinking that such a primitive thing wont be needed ! is there any way i can make the system create a cd rom version of the emergency floppy ?

Now I get a message saying I'm running on selective mode. (in order to go back to normal mode, I have to click on "normal mode" and that means I have to load all programs shown at the startup tab. And, I don't wanna do that)

I looked online and someone said you can just tell that above message never to pop up again, so from now on I'll always start up my computer in selective mode. He said it wouldn't harm your machine. Is that true?

Also, I read you can also use Regcleaner.

What should I do?
