my dell is a dumb @$$ and cant find a controller driver off the web. and i can't find a driver download anywere...not even on microsoft's site.

is it ok to remove the ealier updates since i have the latest ones?
and in the windows directory,can i remove its folders too?

I was trying to uninstall some of the junk that came with my Dell laptop running Windows XP Media Center Edition, basically MSN Explorer, Minesweeper, Hearts, etc. and install some of the more advanced networking stuff (Print Services for Unix)) so I went to "Add/Remove Programs", clicked on "Add/Remove Windows Components" from the icons shown on the left and selected the components I wanted to install and uninstall. When I go through with the setup, Windows Setup states that it cannot find the files inside the folder even when the file is blatantly found in the folder (C:\i386) or on the Windows disk (D:\i386). Why can't it read the file(s)?

This happens every time I tried to run the Windows Component Installer, it doesn't matter which component I try to add, it still can't find the files.

Really, what is the fuss about? Isn't it like another version of windows, like many others (3x, 95, 98, XP and others)? I mean, some new features, some new looks? Or is it something radical and revolutionary? Huh? Will I really need to immediatelly get a Vista-capable computer?

after evaluating trial programs, if it is installed again, the program somehow identified that it has been intalled before. this means that it has left behind some tracks before. how to clear all these values so that it would not identify it has been installed before? the reason i need this is that some trial programs give too limited time to evaluate, and sometimes, before we actually get sometime to paly around with the program, the period would be over.

I have a computer running Windows 98SE and I want to install Windows 2000 Pro on it. I can not remember who backward compabile 2000 Pro is. If I backed up my text files and jpegs files they would still run in the 200, right? And if I have picture viewers to clean up and resize jpegs etc. Those that ran under 98SE would they still most likely work under 2000 Pro? How much change can I expect? Is it like tearing the house all the way down to the floor boards or more of a cabinet reface, carpet, and paint?

I have just put warcraft on my laptop computer and the size of the game is about 2 inches smaller on each side than the actual computer screen. I have tried adjusting the screen resoulution but it has not worked. Any suggestions?
