you format the hard drive and do a clean install of XP. you cannot install XP over 95.

Either Format the hard drive, or install Windows Millennium first over 95.

First of all, you can't upgrade Windows 95 to XP. Second of all, if the PC has Windows 95 on it, putting XP on it is a questionable decision at best. Third, you can't upgrade Windows 95 to XP.

install XP directly. or install windows 98 then install XP.
Before that check ur system requirements
You can install XP on 95 direclty,
