Eusing Free Registry Cleaner is excellent; always create a system restore point before deleting registry keys as some programmes don't do this by default
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/eusing-free-registry-cleaner/eusingregistry.html
Abexo not only cleans the registry but defrags it and compresses it; this can help with boot problems
http://www.abexo.com/free-registry-cleaner.htm
Another free registry cleaner is Regseeker which includes an editor so you can back up the registry and export it; also includes optimization tweaks

BeClean is more like CCleaner but extremely simple to use

If you want detailed information about the entries you are deleting (cleaning) then use paid for tools such as Registry Mechanic,Registry Medic or Win ASO.

I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The best PC cleaner and antivirus program is PC Health Boost, it's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate.
It's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than nomal. Download it here for free: http://www.pcboostsoftware.com

Ccleaner is not only free, easy and safe; its just about foolproof - I've been using it for over a year with no problems as proof!
It will prompt you to back up the registry when you use the 'issues' cleaner and I recommend you do that. If it does uninstall something you needed - and thats unlikely - you double click the text file in your My Docs folder to reinstall it.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware

Professional network engineers will tell you that trying to clean up a corrupt registry is a waste of time. Best to back it up and then restore when things go wrong.
