I have a PC that uses the free antivirus software from SBC. The antispyware software does the scan in less than a minute. The antivirus software takes around 5 hours to do the scan. I do it every week. Is that normal? I have around 100k files. Is there any way of speeding things up? Thanks.

I literally cannot dial up or set up a dial-up connection because all the ways to do this have vanished from my computer. All the normal set-up boxes, Wizards, you name it, are all gone. As a result, I can't connect to the Internet, so I can't even download antivirus software or connect with a service to help solve the problem. Do I have to erase the drive and start all over again, reloading Windows? And I bought the computer second hand and don't have the program disks. How would I get Windows on again? Is this a virus or some kind of malware that did this?

if any rules laws and regulations were violated we have no knowledge of doing so. if we have we'd like to know and we certainly apologize if it was done. again i say we never have planned to violate any of your laws.
we never gave it a thought to change our services with you. if this has happened it was truly a honest mistake made by one of us. please accept our apology and again we do intend to remail with at&t yahoo site.

did this because of the error message 0x62304390 memory could not be read. Also cleared caches and scanned for malware. re booted also. Thank you for your help in advance.

my 13 yr old put a pass word on the computer that he is the administrator now i cant down load send/receive e mails and about every thing else took away privaleges but its not working he is being un fair cant spank kids any more do i spank this computer or destroy it and get another one and keep it ander lock and key so this rotten 13 yr old can never use a computer in my house

I just sent an e-mail to Yahoo! customer care but I don't know how long it will take them to respond. For about the past week I've been getting Delivery Status Notification (Failure) messages for e-mails I did NOT send! The e-mails I'm supposedly sending out are for a Viagra type product and include a link for "misoi" - which I'm hesitant to follow. I changed my account password after the first batch I got -- but I have more from over the weekend.

Is there anything I can do about this?

without reformatting and zeroing my hard drive? Is there a utility? I've seen the website for 'Eraser v5.3' but it doesn't seem to support Windows XP and there hasn't been an update since 2002.

I am using a Windows XP. Naturally my pc is an assembled one and the software too downloaded by the assembling guy. Once I started using the net I started getting unwanted updates and all that stuff. Then suddenly when i open the system I get to see a caution warning from the microsoft that the software is not genuine and that I am no longer eligible for the updates and all. To hell with the updates and stuff. Tell me what to do to avoid this irritating warnings and cautions and reminders. I dont want them. They are all over the place. They come on opening and while working. Tell me how to get rid of them.

Reading Qs on firewalls and also Etomi movie download help - is the reason I can never download movie 'cos Norton firewall is on/ If I disable it to download and one of neighbours has viruses etc am I not leaving my computer open to this? spammers have hijacked my domain. I need some more security, to stop the relay or whatever, so that other people don't get spam that has a return address at my domain name.

I use one and one. Are there more secure webhosts out there? Is there a way to turn off the relay or whatever the spammers are using?

I'm getting a lot of spam returned to email addresses at my domain.

I can easily turn off the catch all to hide these emails. But what I want to do is disallow spammers from using my domain.

I don't know if there is a relay, or how to turn that off. If anyone knows how, I'd love to stop spammers from using it.

i would ideally like a firewall/scanner to detect stuff.

adaware is ok it doesnt appear to slow everything down to a crawl like other security progs do...

i have tried Norton and Mcaffee in previous years but I feel it is too slow to keep up with the updates and everything now...
any suggestions other than those two- preferably something opensource and affordable?

It keeps freezing when I try to get on internet explorer. I had McAfee, but just got a new program, which I ran and found no virus' or problems. I also tried downloading IE 7, but it hasnt seemed to help. What it will do, is sometimes it will let me get on IE (like now) and sometimes it will say "Not Responding", and take forever to let me close the program.
