My computer (my last one) had frozen a few times & at times ran slower than I would have liked, then, one evening 3 months ago (while on the Internet) my computer froze again. I had to turn it off at the mains as I couldn't get it to respond at all. When I turned it back on again, it wouldn't re-boot as it had before. When I took it to get it checked out I was informed that it was probably the Mother board (totally wrecked)
I'm totally ignorant when it comes to the technical side of computers & wanted to get it fixed for my Son to use for his homework, but now I'm being told it's not possible. I wasn't sure if the technician was just fobbing me off hoping I'd just tell him to dispose of the computer, so I collected it & brought it back home as it's a decent machine.
Obviously I now have another computer to work from but, what could cause the Mother board to suddenly & un-expectantly just go like that? I've been told it was probably done by a virus.

I was hoping to delete everything on my computer, and return it to store bought condition.

The computer came with no discs... I think I press F10 at startup....??

I would like to use IsoHunt, or if there are any torrent sites you could recommend, let me know. Thanks...

When I shut down my computer it sometimes re-starts on its own(and yes i do press shut-down and not re-start). What is causing this? I don't think it is due to a virus because my anti-virus software hasn't detected anything, and my computer runs fine in all other ways without any problems. It doesn't happen all the time either; just sometimes.

It used to be that I would search for "local settings" from the start menu search, then navigate from there to the temporary internet files folder and find my files there (cookies too). Sometimes I would just search "temporary internet files" and remove them from there, but recently, out of nowhere... I tried this, and I can no longer navigate from "local settings" to the temp. Internet files folder anymore. And when I go directly to the folder itself, it always shows as empty...(for all user profiles). I know it can't be empty though, it's filling up somewhere. Was it renamed and hidden? Did the new internet explorer 7 make changes to it? I can still delete the files with the browser tools menu, but this doesn't comfort me, because in the past, I would use this option only to find that the temp. internet files folder was still full of stuff. I ran ad aware and spybot just in case... Where did these files be re-routed to? Could I delete the entire folder itself now? etc...

My laptop is connected to the network but still will not let me use the Internet. I have used ipconfig to make sure my IP is ok. I also got rid of my 'media disconnected' problem and my 'limited or no connectivity problem.' I don't know what to do now. Any help is appreciated.

Under (Tools) > Internet Options > Content > Content Advisor >(Settings). The Supervisor password is required before you can continue: My "Hint" is (aunts). Ok, I think I remember typing "aunts" instead of "ants" to purposefully be decieving to anyone trying to guess my password. Just in case though, I typed in the names of every aunt, living or dead on both sides of the family, and none were the correct password. That's why I think it is supposed to mean "ants" For the life of me, I can not remember what it is about "ants" that I thought would be easy for me to remember my password. I didn't even write it down anywhere because I thought it would be easy for me to remember. There is NO way to retrieve that password. I looked it up and Microsoft says they will not help anyone with that password. So, I need all the suggestions that you can throw at me, that has anything to do with "ants". Here are the ones that I've already tried: poison-hill-mound-trail-red-black-raid-black flag-insects.
