I have a Sony Laptop, running on Win XP. Everytime i turn it on it freezes at the startup screen (the window xp screen). I have tried to reboot the computer many times, and it still freezes. What do need to do? Do i need the Win XP disk....

When I rightclick on my desktop and choose properties and then click the Desktop tab all my wallpaper choices are greyed out. I also cannot choose an image from a website and set it as my background as it does not apply, it stays black.

The odd part is that when I shut down my computer or log on it will show my wallpaper while loading, but then blanks it out after that,.

How do I correct his?

The last time I was able to access the Internet was with dial-up. I've tried hooking up the modem directly to the computer but it won't work. I've also tried to use a wireless router, but that hasn't worked either. What might be wrong with it?

I have a gateway (model # 7322Gz) and it like overheats when im using too many programs and shuts off. I realized that it happans when i use too many programs so i stopped but it seems like it caught up with me anways because my laptops now a year old and its begining to overheat and just shut off when im using the most simplest of programs that dont even take up alot of memory or speed. For instance, i can be using microsoft word and be either listening to itunes or browsing the internet and my comp would just shut off.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem and is it even normal? Is there anything I can by to fix this or should i like take it to a specialist because its broken? You can give me more answers than just the options I laid down... i'm just worried about this laptop. I love it but its acting up and shutting off on me like crazy. Also, when i restart my computer it doesn't restrt. Comp shuts dn but has problm booting back up unless i shut down and start it manualy

my computer was fried when my electricity flipped off and on, and i could not even turn on the computer, so i sent it off to be repaired and now all the itunes i had purchased are gone, so i have a couple of questions
can i get them back at all ??
and if i cant save all that music i lost can i atleast save what i have on my ipod by putting that on the computer(so that i can listen to it on the computer and burn cds)??

Right now I'm at 244 MB. I need at least 256 MB. I'm running on Windows XP. Can I make RAM higher by just deleting programs or tasks or doing disk defragment? What do you recommend? Or should I just go out and buy more RAM? If so, how do I know what type of RAM to buy? Please don't link me to some WIkipedia guide... I've already looked at that and it was confusing. Thanks.

I have scanned my computer for viruses and spyware and it seems to be free of all this. I'm running Windows XP, SP 2, 150 GB hard drive which 108 gb is free. I defrag and scan my computer on a regular basis. Even if I'm downloading or just listening to music to causes all programs to shut down after the screensaver has been shut off by me. Just Wondering what could cause this.

I was looking for a file on my computer and I was looking through the hidden files. On my desktop there were some weird files (which I didn't notice before because they were hidden). The names were something like this: ~WRL0277.tmp ~WRL2533.tmp etc

Any idea what these are? Can I delete them?

I have 21 days to return and since it's defective I wouldn't be charged 15% restocking fee. Is this a major problem that I need to report to them? This is the first time I'm using a laptop as my main computer, and I don't want to deal with this if it keeps happening.. I'd rather order another desktop. What do you think I should do?

Also, sometimes when I turn it on it will go to my desktop, then go black for a second and come back on.
