I have 21 days to return and since it's defective I wouldn't be charged 15% restocking fee. Is this a major problem that I need to report to them? This is the first time I'm using a laptop as my main computer, and I don't want to deal with this if it keeps happening.. I'd rather order another desktop. What do you think I should do?
Also, sometimes when I turn it on it will go to my desktop, then go black for a second and come back on.

The power settings are set to never go off automatically. I was in the middle of reading an article and it went black.

Clearly this is not normal, if you return it, you can feel good about ordering another laptop because this is not normal behavior.
What you need to determine first is if the screen is going black because of a hardware error or because of a software application that is miss-behaving.
The best thing to do is to contact Dell customer support and they can help you diagnose the problem over the phone.
If it is a hardware issue, I would exchange it for a new machine instead of allowing them to fix it under warranty.
Good luck

I also own a Dell computing device. Your disaster appears like one the position the computing device would have were given to be taken aside. Or the little button that senses even as the personal computer is being closed is stuck. ?? I even do not comprehend. My cooling fan burned out, and the bogus fan is $20, yet Dell recommended me i wanted to deliver it in for $100 and fifty, only for them to seem at it! Ridiculous! in case you comprehend everybody with fairly some benefit, i'd enable them to seem at it again. otherwise, Dell would ought to....it really is what they pick.

It is best that you return your newly acquired laptop when you find some trouble with it, especially if its within the 21 day period for you to return it. Normally, a new laptop or computer should be running smoothly and without any defect. The defect you mentioned does not usually happen to a new laptop. "If in doubt, do without."

Going black for a moment while going into the desktop is normal behavior. It simply means the computer was switching to a better screen resolution. Go totally dead is another issue. (Wish you had given the model number, I might have had a better guess...)
Contact Dell and insist on exchanging it. It is still in the warranty period so use it.

Return it to DELL and don't even think about it! If they try to convince you for repairs, refuse! And if you can get your money back, do it and look for another laptop at HP.
Good luck

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
