The last time I was able to access the Internet was with dial-up. I've tried hooking up the modem directly to the computer but it won't work. I've also tried to use a wireless router, but that hasn't worked either. What might be wrong with it?

It's entirely possible that the ethernet card for your computer is fried. Before you take it to a technician to check it out, make sure that your internet connections are enabled. Go to control panel > network connections and make sure that all of the icons there say "enabled" next to it. If not, right click and choose enabled. Then, recheck your internet connection.
