Yesterday, I performed a full System Recovery on my computer. The hard disk was formatted and then partitioned into four ''c', 'd', 'j' and 'k'. I began by installing Windows 2000 Pro onto the 'c' Drive followed by Windows XP Pro onto the 'd' Drive and finally Windows Vista onto the 'k' Drive. Today, I performed a full defrag on all three drives using Auslogics Disk Defrag (because unlike the Windows defrag, Auslogics actually displays the files being defragmented). While defragmenting the 'c' Drive (now containing Windows 2000 Pro) I was rather disturbed to see Power Cinema present on the 'c' Drive. You see, Power Cinema had been on the original 'c' Drive with Windows XP (before yesterday's formatting and partitioning). How can this be? A program surviving formatting, partitioning AND the installation of a different OS. I didn't believe such a thing was possible. How do I get rid of defunct programs so they are really gone?

I was cleaning out my computer because I got all kinds of trial crap that comes with any PC and I think I accidently deleted the sound card driver. There is no sound for anything and on the Control Panel Sound it says no device detected. I know the speakers work. I'm assuming I deleted the driver. How do i get my sound back?

I installed 2 gig of memory in addition to the 2 gig I already had. The BIOS says I have 4 gig total but Windows says I only have 3.25 gig. Doesn't matter if I swap the old and new chipsets from slot 0 to slot 1 and vice versa. Clock speeds are all within tolerance (no overclocking).

I have a PC running windows 98 SE that keeps rebooting itself intermittantly. It will sit at the dsektop with no problems but at soon as I run certain programs it just reboots. I tried to do the usual defrag and scandisk and it defragged just fine but rebooted during scandisk twice. This lead me to believe that the hard drive was bad so I ghosted the old one and replaced it. This didn't work. I'm stuck and am not sure where else to look for clues short of throwing parts at it.

if i turn the pc on, boot up does not happen. monitor is blank (no image, all black--as if the monitor was turned off), all i here is 3 beeps (separated by TWO 1-second pauses) then 4second pause, then 3 beeps again.

the pc turned off the second time today.

the first time it happened, i was still able to use the pc as normal. suddenly, when i'm about to close the browser, Mozilla firefox, it turned off automatically. but i was still able to turn on & use(as usual) the pc that day. i remember that i still had, at that time, the free/open source "anti-virus" Core Force. If i remember right, the next day i was able to remove the Core Force program from my PC & reinstall my former Avast anti virus program.

Early today(the second time my pc turned off), the pc was only open for about 5minutes, until i WAS about to open my browser Mozilla Firefox WHEN it turned off. I wasn't able to open/use the pc since then. Is my pc infected by a virus? How can my pc be repaired??

Hi. Ive added 2GB (2x1GB) to my existing 512mb on my Gigabyte GA81PE1000PRO mobo, but my stytem (on startup or in Vista) doesnt recognise it.. still says 512mb. Ive swapped around/taken the old out etc etc.. but the system wont even boot without the old 512mb inside (it works in any slot). Can anyone tell me whats wrong?? When I run the Everest scanner, it lists the 512 as RAM, but lists the new 2gig in 'SPD' - what is this?. Its all DDR PC3200 so I cant understand why the new stuff wouldn't work... & Vista is crawling without it!! Ive checked the mobo manual: all 4 slots can take upto 1gig-fine - but it says 'Due to chipset (Intel 875P/865G/865PE) architecture limitation, DDR 400 memory module is only supported when using FSB 800 Pentium 4 processor. A FSB 533 Pentium 4 processor will
support DDR333 and DDR266 memory module. A FSB 400 Pentium 4 will only support DDR 266 memory module' - what does this mean.. can anyone help - and how can I find out what 'FSB' my P4 prescott is?

Thanks for the answers to my last question. I agree that 939 is becoming dated. But if I was to change out the board, what core 2 duo would you recommend for under $200 (never mind the cost of the board)? I might be able to go up an extra 20 or so if needed.

Thanks =)

My computer needs more RAM. Is it true that you can use a flashdrive as RAM? I heard its only for windows vista users (which I have) with something called ReadyBoost but I dont exactly understand what that is. If it does double as RAM is all you do plug it into a USB slot? Is that IT?? I know there has to be a catch. Also if I need more hard drive space can I use the flashdrive? And finally how much do these things cost? And which brand do you recommend for a Dell E1505 Windows Vista Premium user? Thanks. By the way please dont refer me to one of those sites like new egg I'd just like an answer not a referral. Thanks in advance!

I'm thinking about building a desktop and need help choosing a HDD. I look for speed/performance/cost as disk space is not too important to me. I am between the Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10,000RPM HDD or two (2) smaller 7,200RPM HDD's with RAID 0. Which would be faster?

I have 512 RAM on my machine, it's a fairly low end PC from E-Machines. I would like to add atleast 512 RAM more, so I have total of 1 gb of ram. However, the computer store I called said they only have 1 GB of RAM at the moment. That means I'll have a total of 512 + 1 GB of ram, which is fabulous. I checked my RAM slot and theres just 1 more slot left. I have 2 questions: 1) does 1 GB ram come in 2 slots or is it a 1 slot chip? 2) while looking over my current 512 ram that was installed, it simply said DDR .. it did not say DDR 1 or 2. Because this machine is cheap, Im assuming it's DDR 2. How can be certain?
