I was cleaning out my computer because I got all kinds of trial crap that comes with any PC and I think I accidently deleted the sound card driver. There is no sound for anything and on the Control Panel Sound it says no device detected. I know the speakers work. I'm assuming I deleted the driver. How do i get my sound back?

hi:
locate the model of the computer ( sticker on the back, booklet)
- look for a drivers cd that came with the pc
- go to the manufacturer's website and look up your model. They should have a download section

- last but not least, run a system restore
start\programs\accessories\system tools\system restore

right click my computer, click manage, and then look under "sound, video, and game controllers". see if there is a device that shows "not installed" (or something like that with a yellow triangle) that points to your sound card. if so, try and see if you can update or roll back the driver (windows may already have a driver that works with your card that isnt the manufacturers driver)

if you dont see the device at all, then you've got bigger problems than a driver.

Right click on My Computer and click on properties. From there, select the hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. Once there, look for any yellow question mark icons. This means a driver is missing. Find the sound one, right click it, and select properties. It should tell you the model of the device. If it's there, go to the company website and find the product. From there, download and install the drivers.

If it is your soundcard, you will need to figure out what kind of soundcard your emachine contains. (If you feel comfortable opening the case and looking at the actual card you can do that, or check your PC's documentation if you have that available.) And then once you do that you can just google the name of that sound card or the company that makes it to see if they provide a driver.
