Other - Hardware - October 2006

I will be using my DDR400 2x1GB memory and want a processor that runs at DDDR400 to acompany the Mobo. I need at least 2 PCI slots, but more would be a bonus as im always upgrading. I definately need an AGP slot and lets ust say money is no object. If possible something with HDTV capabilities.

Not sure if this is enough info, oh, and I will be building this myself. I have previously build athlon mobos and want to try an intel board for a welcome change.

I have a Garmin GPS unit that connects to my computer thru COM Port. As far as I can tell I only have one COM Port (the 9 pin plug). When I first bought the unit I followed the manual and it worked fine...pretty much set itself up...(I am running XP) and I was able to tranfer map data between my computer and the GPS. I have not used it in a month or so and now when I plug it in, the program (MapSource) and the computer fail to see the attached device?
I ran the troubleshooter and it tells me that COM Port 1 is working properly although it does not mention anything about the GPS device using it. I tried reinstalling the mapping software since this is where the drivers come from.
Any help would be appreciated. And I am a computer dummy... so don't think I'll be offended by details... the more the better.

Oh.. and I have already tried contacting the manufacturer, they have no idea. They tell me it is a computer issue not a GPS issue. Lots of help they were..

When I do a fragment run it tells me that some defragmented files could not be defragmented, Why? Is there some thing I can do or will I have to take it to a professonal. also can some one explain why, when I want to maxamize a web page it does not work? I am using "Windows XP" SP2.

I have a pretty good system and can't justify spending a ton of money to build another system just to get a PCI-e Video Card. So whats the best AGP video Card out there? I currently have a NVidia 6800GT AGP. What do you think?

click on my computer, then E drive then open, nothing is there and the cd is not blank, the cd rom light continous blinking, please help, i am trying to copy from a cd to my photo [on my computer but it is not , what to do, there is data on cd, even tried a music cd,e drive, then open,. my computer, then properties, pink is free space, blue used space, the whole pie is blue [no free space, what should i do, please help

I want to buy a new one. I want something that is:
1.) cheap
2.) durable (the USB port doesn't wiggle like a loose tooth
3.) pnp (doesn't have fancy software included - just plug it in and use it)

I work in a limited PC environment where we, at the user level, cannot install drivers, security software or other software so I want something that just plugs in and you can use.

I like the TravelDrive for it's ease of use but the plug is wiggly after only a few months of use!
