We have an EMachines monitor and we are wanting to get a new computer. We want to keep our monitor, but we are looking more towards an HP computer.

So are monitors compatible with other brands?

I have a pc and an Xbox running through a data switch box,
so that I can use both on one monitor. But the picture on my monitor is rubbish when running through the switch.
If I connect directly ,ie PC to monitor/Xbox to monitor its fine.
My monitors is a widescreen LCD 1440 x 900 res.
The switch box was cheap, Is it possible if I get a better quality one the display will be better?
Thanks for any advice.

I tried adjusting my monitor settings and adjusting text size, but for some reason when I'm on a website, the website extends beyond the horizontal edges of my monitor. I have to scroll over to read the text. This just started happening a week ago. Any suggestions? I have Windows XP and IE and Mozilla

I have a HP ze2000 Laptop. The Laptop was unrepairable due to unknown circumstances, and because of the cost for repair, I got an external monitor which is a Samsung SyncMaster 731N. My only problem with it as of yet is that when I play video streams it shows up on the faint original monitor but blank with only audio on the external monitor. Without doing something too extreme, is there a correct way to solve this?

Ok, went to best buy, this is what I bought:

Westinghouse - 19" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor
5 ms response time;
700:1 contrast ratio;
300 cd/m² brightness;
1440 x 900 maximum resolution;
150° horizontal and 130° vertical viewing angles

was about $209 after all tax.

Then I went into Office Depot looking for a new desk and ran across this:

SAMSUNG C906BW 19" WIDESCREEN LCD
The wide 16:10 aspect ratio
2000:1 contrast ratio
1440 x 900
ultra-fast 2ms (G to G) response time
And exclusive Magic technologies

After mail in rebate would be about $209.

So question is: is it worth it to return the westinghouse and get the Samsung? I've been told it is a better brand.... Does the 5ms vs the 2ms really make a difference? OR any of the other differences? just want some thoughts basically on if it is worth it. thanks :)

i would like to ask is it worth it to buy lcd monitor for my pc use? I heard they say that the lifespan of lcd is 50000 hours is this true?

I also heard that lcd is so bright that it strains the eye, is this true?

How does an lcd get dead pixel and how to prevent it?

Is it true uninstalling your videocard will get rid of the dead pixels? Is it necessary to have a new videocard to use lcd cuz mine is only nvidia 2.

Is it ok to use an analog to digital adapter for the dvi of the lcd?

What is the use of widescreen anyway? Do you know of any wallpaper manager that can enlarge to fit a whole widescreen lcd like 1400*900?

Thanks for reading my questions. i know its so many. But thanks a lot

Hey I have a macbook.

For some reason the screen is dimmed every time I turn it on, and it dims again after it is on for about five minutes.

I can turn the brightness back up. But I have to do it all the time.

I've changed it in preferences & energy saver.

What is making it dim & how do I change that?

Thanks in advance.

I have a somewhat old monitor dating back from 2001. The thing is that I need to adjust the brightness and contrast because my printed material doesnt look the same. I would like to know like the default adjustment, it doesnt have to be precise, just something around so I can have peace of mind.

The thing is that the buttons that adjust the light are 2 different ones.

1 of them is like a circle with lines poking out, somewhat like a sun design.

and the other one looks like half filled circle, like a half moon.

These 2 buttons have the ability to go up to 100% each, but I dont know what percentage to set them individually.

do you know what percentage I could put?

I have 2 monitors hooked up to the computer using VGA and DVI connection. When I go to my display properties (WinXP Pro) I select the option to "Extend" my desktop and it works no problem. But whenever I reboot I have to repeat this process! It's as if the OS forgot the display setting preference.

Everything on the computer screen is rotated... it's as if the whole moniter is turned 90 degrees to the left. Take your monitor and turn it 90 degrees to the left with your hands, and that's exactly how things look on the screen. How do I fix this?

I have a Dell computer that I want to connect to a monitor and a HDTV (to show the same image, but in different rooms). On the computer I have a DVI output, but not a separate VGA output.

I have recently purchased a Y-splitter to connect in the DVI slot of the computer that splits in VGA and a DVI slots. The monitor is connect in the VGA and the HDTV is connected to the DVI slot by a HDMI wire.

The problem is that I can use one or the other screen, but not both at the same time. Do you have a solution to make the image correctly on both screens?

By the way, the monitor is a 19" LCD and the TV is a 42" plasma.

I am looking for a way to use my monitor as a TV when I travel, but I don't want to lug my desktop with me. I wondered if their is some type of device I could hook it up to convert the cable TV to the DVI cable I have going in the monitor. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
