I just switched out my old monitor for a new one and the screen seems much larger how do I fix this?

An example is that where I could previously fit 8 icons I can now only fit 3 icons in the same space. How do I get the 8 icon space back

Hi. Right click on the desktop, select Properties, Settings. Increase the resolution and THIS IS IMPORTANT, click Apply (not OK).

Do what Cirric says and also you can change the font size of the desktop- click on desktop/properties/appearance tap and select the normal font if still to large. On the appearance tab you can also select effects button and uncheck use large icon box.
