How can I fix it so the images on my monitor don't extend beyond the edges?

I tried adjusting my monitor settings and adjusting text size, but for some reason when I'm on a website, the website extends beyond the horizontal edges of my monitor. I have to scroll over to read the text. This just started happening a week ago. Any suggestions? I have Windows XP and IE and Mozilla

Well, if you have adjusted your monitor externally (through its buttons), then I suppose you should change the screen resolution, right there in properties when you right click on the desktop( then settings). That will work
