i have a dell inspiron 1200. all of a sudden i can not see anything on the monitor. i just can see a shadow on screen. i think hard drive works. what do u think problem is?

If you can still see a vary dark image when you hold a light up to the screen then your LCD panel back light has gone.
You need to get it fixed.

First start with simple things
If you can access your display settings in control panel adjust them, adjust brightness, and contrast on your screen, then go with the display adapters, THESE are all free to fix
You can try reinstalling your graphics from your CD if this doesnt work then the next problem could be graphics card, or the lcd panel(the most common graphics problem)

try to reinstall the CDs otherwise get the new graphic card
