Data transfer switch?

I have a pc and an Xbox running through a data switch box,
so that I can use both on one monitor. But the picture on my monitor is rubbish when running through the switch.
If I connect directly ,ie PC to monitor/Xbox to monitor its fine.
My monitors is a widescreen LCD 1440 x 900 res.
The switch box was cheap, Is it possible if I get a better quality one the display will be better?

The switchbox probably does not support that resolution. Get a better one and make sure that it supports the resolutions you need.
