whats the difference between the two?

the two are not really comparable. "flat" referres to the screen, be it tube or LCD or plasma... meaning that there is little to no curve in the display. "wide" referres to the aspect ratio of the screen. Personally, I prefer wide... and at this point, I cannot work on a tube based screen. I'm totally used to an LCD screen. Wide ratios rule!

A flat screen is a regular CRT (TV-type) monitor where the front is flat instead of slightly curved like old style TVs.

A wide screen monitor is like a screen at a movie theatre. Where it is much wider (from left to right) than tall. Wide screens can be either CRTs or LCDs (very thin screens like on a laptop).

Well the flat screen monitor is on that the view part is flat and doesn't have a glare. I have one myself. The back of it is also pretty much flat as well. So it is versus es to how the older monitors look like minature televisions. The wide screen is also flat but the screen is more horizontal than the original screens. Your best bet is to go to Circuit City and you will definitely see your options

Flat screen monitors are LCD [liquid crystal displays] which generally consume less energy and give off less heat compared to a CRT, or tube like a large television. Wide screens allow for larger display area and are excellent for doing word processing and graphics. If you are considering a new monitor for your computer I recomend the Samsung 19" Widescreen LCD(Samsung 920NW / 19" Wide / 5ms / 700:1 / WXGA+ 1440 x 900 / Black / Widescreen LCD Monitor) . It supports DVI and standard VGA input sources. Its also got fast response time for gaming!

well..you can get a flat/wide screen from Dell..I'm using one now...it's 23", rotates, moves side to side, up and down and the screen itself rotates...you can stick USB, and Flashcards in the side of it...it's light (plasma) and the color is fantastic.

Usually flat screen means just that, flat...
and wide is wide...just that...

not much except flat screen is thinner so it saves room on your desk, and also some say that flat screens have better quality showing whatever is on the screen.
