I checked the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it goes up to 1024x768. I go to System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution, and the resolutions are 800x600 and 640x480. I can have 60 or 56 hertz for 800x600 and only 60 hertz for 640x480. I can get past 1280x1024 on Windows and I still get 75 hertz. (I have a CRT) I read that I should get a better driver or something, where should I get it, or what should I do?

My monitor sometimes goes all stripy and the picture disappears. I squeeze the upper left hand side and the picture comes back as long as I am holding it, then I shake it and hit it and shout at it and squeeze again and then if I'm lucky the picture stays when I stop squeezing it.
What is going on?

Hi. I ordered a widescreen for my wifes computer. Does windows XP have all the neccessary settings for this to work properly? Is there any forseen problems with this?
How do the wide screens fit a webpage, is it stretched? Anything else you can tell a widescreen newbie? Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, its an acer widescreen and a sony vaio PCV-RS510 with onboard Intel 82865 G Graphics.

My monitor just gave out. Was working fine, before going to black. It will turn on for a split second before shutting off again. The same thing happened to my tower and it was the power supply, could it be the same thing for my monitor?

I turned on my laptop this morning and it looks like my screen size has shrunk. There are two black bars to both the left and write of my screen and I need to know how to stretch it back out. I have tried looking in display options but am afraid I am looking in the wrong place.

I have a relatively new flat screen monitor that has suddenly started turning itself into standby mode and won't turn back on. Everything is plugged in ok, the monitor is set to not go into standby mode at all and is turning off while the pc is being used, not during periods of inactivity.

The only common factor is its been doing it since i installed MSN 8.1 beta last week and altho it has turned off while I've been opening other programs 9 times out of 10 its only with messenger, the other programs work fine. I have uninstalled MSN but it continues. I've run a full virus scan too and that came up blank.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Besides a new monitor of course!

This has been happening more frequesntly lately--I have never seen this before on any computer--it's a Dell laptop. The screen just starts moving up and down for about 5-10 seconds, then stops. While it is happening, you cannot close the screen or do any commands

I had a hard time choosing these two monitors but I took the more expensive and older model because it came with a 3 year perfect screen warranty. That means that I can change the monitor anytime the screen has a dead pixels. For the cheaper and newer model, I had to wait for 2 dead pixels within the first year and 3 pixels the following two years before I could change it. Do you think that my choice to pay more and buy the older model was worth it for the "perfect screen" warranty?

The video needs to go to all 4 monitors at once so that you can view a different application in each monitor. (ie monitor 1 - internet explorer, monitor 2 - Microsoft word, Monitor 3 - Microsoft Excel, monitor 4 - Quickbooks)

I am guessing that it will require 2 video cards that each have two video outs.

Does anyone know of a good solution? Specific make / brand info would be most usefull.

Thanks!

Hi! I have just built a new computer with a P5GZ-MX motherboard. Everything was working spiffingly but after less than a week the display suddenly gets these columns of coloured lines through it, I can see the desktop through the lines but I am unable to do anything like move the mouse or use my keybard to shut the computer down. I have tried reinstalling the motherboard drivers, and this seemed to fix the problem temporarily, but then it came back again. I assumed it could be the onboard VGA on the motherboard, so I replaced the motherboard completely with the same model, but the same problem happens again. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
