You can configure your computer to power down certain devices after a pre-determined amount of time. You can tell it to turn off the monitor after a certain amount of time. You can also configure it to turn off power to the fixed disk drive platters as well.
Some people like to keep the computer on 24-7, so they reduce power consumption by pre configuring it's peripherals to power down when not being used.

The power consumption will probably be about the same as when you are using it, however it would be better to put your computer in standby when you are not using it for a long time because it takes more power to turn the computer on from off than to use it for 7 hours

It is not as high as you may think. I have a network in my house with four computers hooked up. I leave the server machine running in screensaver mode. The others I put into standby after a resonable period of time. I turned them off one month and didn't see any appreciable difference. Yes, they use power, but not so much.

If your comp is on for 24 hrs ull run ur CPU and POwer box to a low level and increase chances of a melt down or over heating if u dont have proper cooling. But ur comp will surely consume more energy if it is not logged off or in sleep mode

High. You should adjust your power settings to have the monitor and maybe hard disks turn off after a specific amount of time. You may even want the system to go into Standby or Hibernation.

I leave my computer on all the time - I turn the monitor off when I won't be home for hours at a time. As for power consumption -it won't be any different in regards to how much power it uses per hour.

It takes less energy to leave your computer on than it does to shut it down and reboot it every time that you want to use it. Go to your properties and change your standby time for a certain amount of time after your computer has been idle. That will save some energy.

It depends on your power supply. If you get a good PSU, such as an Antec or Enermax, then it will remain constant. If you have a bad PSU, then it will be choppy, dirty power. Your power bill will be higher since you are using that much more power having your computer on.

Very low. If the computer will shut down to standby, even less.
