IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TRAINING DO NOT OPEN A CRT!!! THEY CONTAIN A LARGE CHARGE EVEN AFTER UNPLUGGING!!! If you have electronics or TV repair skills you already know how to fix it. If you don't stay out.

Don't even try. The high voltage (35,000 volts) might kill you. Tools and equipment would cost a fortune. A new Cathode Ray Tube would cost more than a new LCD 19" monitor.

Adding my agreement here. Even experienced professionals often won't touch CRT repairs. It's just too dangerous. Even after you unplug it, the capacitors hold a large enough charge to kill you. It has completely different safety protocols than working with other electronics -- you DON'T use an ESD strap, because you don't want that charge going through you. Non-conducting tools only. If you really want to learn, go to a school that specializes in TV repair. Don't try to teach yourself.

Totit, I'm with Gene on that one. It's probably just so old, that it can't be repaired. I heard that if you leave them on all the time that the heat will burn them up faster. But that's just heresay. You can probably find a used one for next to nothing at a local thrift store or hock shop. But don't try to fix it yourself. You could get hurt.
