I have a relatively new flat screen monitor that has suddenly started turning itself into standby mode and won't turn back on. Everything is plugged in ok, the monitor is set to not go into standby mode at all and is turning off while the pc is being used, not during periods of inactivity.
The only common factor is its been doing it since i installed MSN 8.1 beta last week and altho it has turned off while I've been opening other programs 9 times out of 10 its only with messenger, the other programs work fine. I have uninstalled MSN but it continues. I've run a full virus scan too and that came up blank.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Besides a new monitor of course!

Did you update windows? If so a new driver file may have been installed for the monitor that isn't really compatible (despite microsoft saying it is). Try going into the device manager...located via the control panel...and roll back the driver for your monitor.

as soon as your computer turns on, right click desktop, and screen saver. go to power options and make sure everything on the first tab is set to never.
alternately, go start, control panel, power options, and make sure everything is set to "never" under power schemes

my partner had same sort of problem, it was down to the pc needing a new graphics card.
