i only have accsess to internet via dial up in remote area. if i purchase a laptop can it be used with dial up for accsess?

a cousin of mine wants to buy a labtop but he is not very computer saavy so i thought it would be better for him to start with Windows XP as opposed to VIsta, since all the labtops we went to go look at have Vista, i am pretty familiar with WIndows XP and i feel i can help him out more if he gets a labtop with Windows XP instead of Vista, i tried using Vista, and it is kinda complicated to use, so if i dont know how to use Vista well i doubt i can explain stuff to him very good since i am new to Vista too....
so is their anywhere besides eBay he can buy a labtop that comes equipped with maybe Windows XP media Center or regular windows XP ???? a Store???? or are any stores still going to carry labtops with Windows XP???? a reliable website????
cuz everywhere i look they Alll come with Vista!!!!

I'm going to buy a laptop in the next month. I looooove my iPod, and although it would have made me laugh a couple of years ago, I'm considering getting a MacBook. What are the advantages and disadvantages of an Apple vs. a PC? Apples are a bit more expensive, but I think it might sync better with my iPod.

I had to return a new Gateway laptop with Vista because the touchpad was unreliable. It was jerky, very hard to control direction, pressure needed kept changing. I talked to Gateway tech support for an hour and tried everything. I took it back to the retailer to swap it for another. This second one has the same problems! although not so bad.

This is my fifth laptop and I only use the touchpads, so I'm adept. Have I run into an isolated problem, or have others encountered the same thing?

My friends laptop (hp something) was left on when searching the internet. she had to leave and pick up her cousins from school (she left it on) she came back it had crashed. I have tried everything.. i have the sys. restore discs BUT i need the data off the computer and if and when i use the sys. restore discs it will erase EVERYTHING and i don't want that happening

i had such good answers to my previous questions,so im asking for help again, our lap top(which is new) seems to have a time delay when you write emails! you type what you want and nothing comes up on the screen, then one by one each word appears but really slow, the technical support cant help. it is a new laptop, im going to send it back if it cant be sorted(its windows xp)

I have an HP dv5000 that I am very happy with and no problems. However, I am preparing to drop another $2000 on another laptop to use for web design, database design and minor gaming and such.
I'd like to know what kind of laptop you have, its specifications and its pros and cons. (Please note, I'd like some serious replies. I'm really not interested if you have a $400 Acer that's really great for chatting and email.)

I noticed that everytime I play games on my laptop -- the whole unit heats up. Then sometimes the system would simply freeze after a few hours of playing games. I have a Pentium 4 3.07Ghz laptop with 384mb of RAM and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP Graphics Card. What do you think is wrong? Do I need to upgrade my Graphics card? Or should I just instead used a normal desktop computer to play those PC Games?

I have a slim dvd/cd writer drive on my laptop. I want to know if i've burned some cd projects yesterday(which didn't work) and today i'm trying to watch some dvd's (which i can't , the lights by the drive door just kept blinking) , am i supposed to goto somewhere in windows to "switch" back from cd to dvd mode??? or you don't need to do that , it should auto detect what it needs?

1GB is how much MB?
The latop I think of buying says the memory has to be at least 1GBto be capable with windows vista premium opreating system.

In the site it doesn't say GBs It has these in MB like 512 MB, 1024 MB.

is 1GB is same as 1024 MB?
