Hi, The question you have asked is kinda incomplete..you can get Internet on a laptop by a number of ways...it depands on...
1) The configuration of the laptop
2) The place you generally use the laptop.
3) The availability of Internet and the type of carrier you have there.
Almost 99% of the laptops have wireless network cards installed....and the same goes for how people connect to the Internet. 99% of laptops are connected as shared internet. That means, they already have a desktop connected and they share its Internet connection with the laptop. Lets take an example...you have DSL line at home....then you need a wireless router that you install and share the internet connection with it. This is how you connect...Rest if you can modify your question so that I can answer it accuratly

As indicated above, you have many ways and options for "getting internet" on your laptop. Some you might have already built in, some you might have to purchase as an add-on.
If you post the question with the model number of your laptop, we could see what it was capable of.

You have to subscribe to an internet service provider, like Earthlink, America on Line, or whatever. If you are not a subscriber, then the only other way is to link up on free WiFi.

you would need a wireless router to put the signal in the air - so that your notebook could pick it up (assuming you have an internet connection)
