Of the dust, specks and a few crumbs that have gotten into the crevices between the keys? I heard it could be damaging to the processor to run a hand-held vacuum over the keyboard.

What you have heard is incorrect, unless you are talking about some industrial strength vacuum.

My suggestion would just be to use compressed air. Hold the can upright so you don't release any moisture from the can. tip the laptop on it's side and hold the can about 6 - 12 inches from the keyboard and use short bursts of air to blow the debris from the keyboard. This should be all you will need to do.

DO NOT USE glass cleaner and paper clips on the keyboard as someone else suggested!

If you run a vacuum cleaner over the keyboard you won't damage the processor but you will damage the keyboard the best way to clean it is to go down to you local computer shop they should sell cans of compressed air for cleaning dust and the like and in you case crumbs out of a computer the pressure isn't too high so it won't do any damage

I find the best way to clean keyboards is to stand the keyboard on end (sideways) and use a can of compressed gas to blow the particles down and out, using the edge of a file card to dislodge things I can see. Vacuum seems to me to have problems with stuff that got down past the moving keys, but doesn't want to come back up.

Get some glass cleaner and a paper towel. spary the glass cleaner on the keyboard. then take the paper towel and a paper clip. put the paper clip in the paper towel and run the clip in between the keys, and your down.

With a 10 or 20 dollar bill at the computer store! If the vacume kills it - probably via static electricity - you can always replace it.
